Profile: Athira found herself fascinated by rural life – rural India’s people, cultures, and practices were introduced to her during her BSc in Rural Development. Her urge to learn more brought her to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, where she studied management and governance of natural resources as well as how to build sustainable livelihoods for underprivileged people, through multiple field-based internships and immersive projects across India.

She acquired skills in auditing projects, developing policies, and advocacy through field-based experiences with the Social Audit Unit in Jharkhand and with the Irrigation Department (Water User Association) in Maharashtra.

She has worked with SRLM Rajasthan (RGAVP) Rajeevika as a Young Professional on the planning and management of projects giving her deeper insight into generating sustainable livelihoods through natural resources. It also kept her grounded in rural India and its ways of life, which she has always loved.

She is the Project Coordinator of Dakshin’s Recycling and Well-being project in the Palk Bay in Tamil Nadu.
