I have always been keen on working with marginalized communities. My Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in community development introduced me to societal ground realities in different places and systems. My post-graduate thesis involved understanding the lifestyle and problems of return emigrants in Kerala. Thereafter, a short stint as a Social Worker at a Woman and Childcare Home in Wayanad, Kerala, gave me the opportunity to work with victims of child abuse. These experiences strengthened my optimistic outlook on the ability of social work to bring about social change, hence pushing me to work with communities in different spaces.

I joined Dakshin Foundation in January 2019 and am currently coordinating a project on community-based management of octopus fisheries in the Lakshadweep Islands. I am also a part of Dakshin’s larger work on fisheries co-management in Lakshadweep. I am particularly interested in exploring the role of women in island fisheries. In the future, I would like to pursue my other interests in areas such as gender studies, sustainable livelihoods, and social entrepreneurship through participatory approaches and a combination of research and interventions.
