Qualifications: Master of Social Work, University of Calicut, Kerala, 2015. B.A. Travel and Tourism Management, University of Calicut, Kerala, 2013.

Profile: While pursuing my Masters in Social Work, I got many opportunities to interact with different communities and understand their challenges. These experiences motivated me to work for the well-being of local communities. I am particularly interested in working with communities that are highly dependent on natural resources. I believe that empowering communities to use their resources in  a sustainable way can help conserve nature as well as livelihoods.

I hail from Kadmat Island in Lakshadweep and have always desired to work for my native islands. I am presently co-ordinating Dakshin Foundation’s community-based fisheries monitoring efforts in Lakshadweep. Through this work, I hope to work towards sustainable management of our unique pole and line tuna fishery and also help the local fishing community in Lakshadweep.

In the future, I want to work towards preserving the traditional indigenous knowledge of the fishing community in Lakshadweep and passing it on to future generations. I would also like to work on improving environmental education in the Lakshadweep Islands.
