Profile: Shamili has worked primarily with children, women, refugees and people of concern, unorganised labour, and individuals from marginalised communities, advocating for their rights and protection. Her work and expertise were mostly on child rights and protection, suicide prevention and psycho-social support, inclusive education for children with disabilities, and protection of people of concern and victims of sexual and gender-based violence in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. Her most recent work has included advocating for labour rights and welfare standards in spinning mills based in Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur. Her desire to advocate towards inclusive and effective policymaking in the field stems from her passion for engaging with diverse people and cultures.
Apart from her work, Shamili has a love for music and learning languages.
She is part of Dakshin’s Community and Resource Governance team as a Programme Associate and works on Recycling and Well-being project, in the Palk Bay.
