Profile: Suneha is an independent marine biologist based in Chennai, with a keen interest in human-nature interactions, environmental education, reef ecology and conservation issues. She has worked on marine habitat restoration and marine education projects across the South Indian coastline. In the past, she has worked with multiple tourism companies to incorporate conservation ethos in sustainable tourism and adventure sport education.
She started her foray in citizen science with her master’s thesis – where they tried to understand perceptions of reef health by scuba divers, and how this could be incorporated into education and citizen science programmes. Now, she works on Reeflog, India’s first citizen science program to exclusively monitor marine ecosystems. Through this program, our aim is not only to collate open-source data on our marine resources, but also increase ecological literacy among the dive community.
