I am an independent marine biologist based in Chennai, with a keen interest in human-nature interactions, environmental education, reef ecology and conservation issues. I have worked on marine habitat restoration and marine education projects across the South Indian coastline. In the past, I have worked with multiple tourism companies to incorporate conservation ethos in sustainable tourism and adventure sport education.
I started my foray in citizen science with my master’s thesis – where we tried to understand perceptions of reef health by scuba divers, and how this could be incorporated into education and citizen science programmes. Now, I work on Reeflog, India’s first citizen science program to exclusively monitor marine ecosystems. Through this program, our aim is not only to collate open-source data on our marine resources, but also increase ecological literacy among the dive community.
