ProfileVikas’s journey of unlearning and relearning began through his involvement in theatre and music during his undergraduate studies at Delhi University. The experiential realisation through arts and aesthetics helped him understand socio-political marginalities and economic inequalities. Deeply influenced by literature and activism, yet aware of their limitations, Vikas decided to pursue a Master’s degree at Azim Premji University to gain a deeper understanding of the technicalities and linkages between various developmental themes.

Professionally engaged with Azim Premji University, Vikas focused on studying the changes and developmental consequences faced by the Chambal and Ken rivers. The elective course on ‘Coastal Ecology’ instilled in him a sense of urgency and a desire to support and learn from the coastal communities living on the edges. At Dakshin, Vikas is striving to incorporate social intervention and performing arts to create spaces for gender-inclusive expression related to community commons, education, mental and physical health, as well as the rights and entitlements of coastal communities in Ganjam, Odisha.
