Illuminating Hidden Harvests

In order to bring greater attention and pull back the curtain on the role of small scale fisheries in a country’s development, the FAO, WorldFish and Duke University initiated the lluminating Hidden Harvests project. This project is a follow-up to a 2012 study conducted by World Bank, FAO and WorldFish. The group has partnered with organisations in different coastal countries to put together country-specific reports which will be collated to create a global picture.
Dakshin Foundation was approached to lead the development of the India report. This report will contain the social, economic, environmental and governance information currently available on Indian fisheries providing us an opportunity to create a comprehensive database on Indian fisheries. This database will no doubt be extremely useful not only for Dakshin’s future work in India but for other marine organisations and people’s movements working for greater recognition and protection of small-scale fishers.
