Our sports and community wellbeing programme aims to provide youth and children in our field sites with structured sporting opportunities, which can provide them with spaces to engage in pro-social behaviour and experience physical and mental enjoyment. This programme also aims to place increased emphasis on the building of organic relationships between communities and the natural environments that surround them in these coastal spaces. Through this sports-based intervention, we aim to initiate a ‘Web of Soccer’ module that uses sports like football to engage and provide health and physical wellbeing, and serve as a platform to discuss a variety of topics relevant to the local context. These will include both environmental and social topics, in order to empower local youth and children to participate in and lead social and environmental activities for the betterment of their communities.
